Re: Possible new available green sensitive AgX plates

Fine grain is not required for monochrome green holograms. I estimate the permissible range to be 15–25 nm. SLavich 5-15 nm, 35-40% - 10 nm. Slavich emulsions are not hardened. Isopropanol causes reticulation during drying; it is better to treat them with a surfactant or ethanol. don't understand h...

Re: Possible new available green sensitive AgX plates

Jody, I think it important that the company you're in touch with state the grain size of their emulsions. This gives information on the exposure as well as the processing chemicals required. I was at ABNH when Agfa stopped producing plates. I was tasked with finding an alternative to Agfa. I called ...

Re: To all Holography DIY'ers and enthusiasts

Fundamentally, hands on holography is now largely in the realm of hobbyists, artists, a few remaining professional commercial holographers, students in physics classes at the secondary school and university levels, and scientific researchers. This is true of display holography, but not of technical...

Re: Some Discussions Regarding Gelatin-Based Holographic Plates

There are many materials that have been tried/used for holography besides silver halide and dichromates. The problem is that these 'holography' sites/forums/social media is dominated by display holographers, who simply use holography either for art or as a hobby. There are no sites, as far as I know...

Re: gelatin turbidity

Also, I believe 'turgidity' refers to the water content. I was curious how pH could affect scattering, ie how does the hydrogen ion concentration determine scattering profiles ( pH = -log[H+] ). I was wondering if, perhaps hydrogen, with just one electron, had a high magnetic moment - and, if so, th...

Re: gelatin turbidity

Anyway, I asked the AI for a graph showing how gelatin pH relates to turbidity (light scattering). I was not able to find the actual reference for this graph. AI can be mystifying, because the answers seem to make sense, but sometimes I'm not able to find the actual source for its answers. Probably...

Re: today's DCG

I'm in two minds over the warmer water bath. A warmer water bath increases water penetration. However: 1. An increased water penetration swells the emulsion more. This makes the Bragg planes wider, leading to a recon wavelength shift. 2. On the other hand, increased water penetration, causes the wat...

Re: A long post about bubbles

It's not possible to say why these "pits" or bubbles are occurring without further information. It could be making the gloop in a dusty environment without adequate cover, or dust in the mixing vessel. It could be micro-cross linking in the heating gloop, or it could be dust on the plate b...
